Bronwyn Weaver and her husband, Bob Archibald, have a unique farm “just 30 miles due west of Sears Tower,” as she puts it. They raise vegetables, keep bees, and operate a commercial kitchen to preserve what they grow. On their small farm, a system of movable greenhouses helps them extend their growing season so they can plant and grow crops year round. Bronwyn says that an important part of their mission is to educate the community about sustainable farming practice and how the food it produces leads to good nutrition. Heritage Prairie also offers classes for adults in related subjects and conducts an extensive farm-camp program for young people. The year-round on-farm store sells a wide variety of local fresh foods, and the farm is available for events.
