Bill Rose founded River Valley Ranch in 1976 with a sizable goal: he wanted to produce the finest fresh mushrooms for the local market. Bill's son, Eric, who joined the operation in 1977, learned the art of growing mushrooms commercially from his dad. River Valley Ranch still produces fresh mushrooms, but also grows a wide variety of produce, including heirloom tomatoes, specialty potatoes, peppers, onions, asparagus and more. All crops are grown without pesticides or chemical crop enhancements. Since 1997, River Valley Kitchens, the farm's licensed processing kitchen, has produced pickled mushrooms and more than 25 shelf-stable products. The Food Network has profiled River Valley and in December 2007 the Chicago Tribune included its products among the 16 must-have foods for the holiday table. River Valley Ranch is one of the original members of the Green City Market. The farm’s motto is "Quality, freshness, and lots of Love"
